Even though we went on this trip a month or so ago, here are some cool pics of ZIONS National park from FEB 2009. We stayed at the last motel closest to the Zions entrance on the southern end of Zions (the town is called Sprindale). Since we didn't have our AIRSTREAM at the time, we stayed in a motel cause it was to cold to camp (per Annisa). Our venture was over Presidents day weekend. Weather there was high 40's and mostly sunny, most of the time. We left Sandy on Saturday morning...the drive was good, about 4 hours. It was very beautiful on the road up to Zions (after you exit I-15). We mostly just drove around, but we got out and did a couple small hikes. Annisa is not much for the cold weather, so she hung out in the car a couple times her crazy husband wanted to wander around. Peter got some great pics of a small cave and some great hanging ice things. We did half of the hike to the lower emerald pools because the other half was closed. We were snowboarding back to the car due to the sun not shining on some of the ice and snow, but other than that were were good. We did see a lady take a spill, and it wasn't pretty, at least she laughed about it in the end!

Pros of Zions/hotel: Cons of Zions:
Time of year was pretty COLD, mid to upper 40's
Not Busy, no crowds be sure to take gloves/hat
Town was really small,  Muddy
so you found unique things there Not may hikes were open/safe
GREAT chocolate shop No pets allowed (Jen B. babysat our
Hotel had 24 hour access to the hot tub cute dogs while we partied

Overall, a great trip, we would rate it 3.5 stars at this time of year, we probably will rate it higher when we go back in the summer....cause we will will go back.

Enjoy the pics!

  3. Hey Peter, hats off to you. I never pictured Annisa as a camper. In fact, none of the Nelsons are really campers. Good luck and keep on camping. Oh and we have been camping together A LOT!
