Happy mothers day

I want to take a moment and say thank you to all the mothers out there. I know it is hard, and you give up most of the things that you like (that last piece of cookie, or that last sip of green smoothie...) but I hope days like today make up for some of that. My dear mother, whom I adore beyond...well...anything, gave me a book with mom quotes in it for mothers day. Sometimes things like that don't really get my going with tears, but today was an exception. Let me share with you one quote that really hit my life 100%:
"Motherhood brings as much joy as ever, but it still brings boredom, exhaustion, and sorrow, too. Nothing else ever will make you as happy or as sad, as proud or as tired, for nothing is quite as hard as helping a person develop his own individuality, especially while you struggle to keep your own." Marguerite Kelly and Elia Parsons

I started crying when I read this quote because this is exactly how I feel, I love being a mother with all my heart, but I miss being able to do what I want to do, when I want to do it. On the flip side, There are things that I wouldn't be interested in had I not had kids. Sewing for example. I love sewing. Every project I learn something, and I get better. This is not a talent I knew I had, but having children helped me develop it. As a woman who had a career for 7 years before she had kids, I had some pretty rough days at the office...As a mother of two pretty cool kids, let me just say that this is the hardest job I've ever done in my entire life.......

Today I'd like to share two mothers day projects I worked on. I've been frequenting Pintrest during my early morning feedings and have NUMEROUS projects I'd like to do. (My friend April put her label on Pintrest as "projects I think are cool...but will NEVER have time to do...." haha.) Both of these ideas I found there, but actually had time on Saturday to do them.

Enter Dish/Kitchen towels:

I used flour sacks (actually flour sack material) as I like this much better than other types of material. The towels aren't that pretty, but they work crazy good. haha

I simply cut a piece of material the length of my towel, then 6" wide. (I accounted for 1/2" on each side)
then ironed the sides closed, and pinned and sewed! The most tedious part of this whole thing was measuring, cutting, ironing. other than that, I loved doing this. I gave some to my sister in laws here in UT for mothers day. Cost of each item was about $1.00. I plan on making 15 for my own kitchen.

Next, I had time to quickly sew a cute onesie for Elsje to wear on mothers day...I think it turned out pretty cute. Please forgive any stains you see, I stupidly didn't take pictures before Elsje wore them outside and during dinner. oops....

Elsje loves "helping" with dishes

her cute cloth diaper is showing through....she doesn't have chicken pox. haha

I had a great time making this onesie...it was probably the easiest thing Ive sewn so far....

Happy mothers day to you all...you all deserve it.
