So speaking of traditions..........
Peters family is from Dutch origin and I think it is really cool. I wanted to make sure that part of those roots were part of Elsjes life, so I have instituted OMA, and OPA to her vocabulary (meaning Grandma and Grandpa), and for her first Christmas, I wanted to institute Sinterklaas. (he's the Dutch Santa Clause.)
Sinterklaas is Celebrated on the 5-6th of December. Usually the evening of the 5th and the morning of the 6th. You put your wooden shoes out on the night of the 5th with carrots for his horses and he delivers goodies and presents to you if you've been a good boy or girl. Even though we don't have wooden shoes for our family, (have you seen the price of them theses days?? haha) we will still put out our shoes and don't tell, but Elsje is most likely going to get something....haha.
To extend this tradition further, we've decided that we would "Sinterklaas" a neighbor or friend in our area to help spread the cheer of service and happiness. We have our family picked out, and their gifts are waiting here till nightfall! I can't wait!!! Here is a sneak peak of Elsjes gift, but I cannot show the gift of the other family till tomorrow....stay tuned!!!
Oh you are so good! Keith saw your post this am and asked me why we don't do Sinterklaas! (ha as if my kids needed one more thing!) I think traditions are so fun! Maybe next year.....
ReplyDeleteBTW a friend of my sister said she got her kids wooden shoes at the DI. Just a thought!
Also I got your guilt trip message, it didn't work. We missed stake conference! Maybe next year for that too!
haha!! If I say "maybe next year" to one more thing in Elsjes life, I might as well curl up and die!! I'm such a procrastinator. Lucky for me, guilt is a big thing for me....I do most things out of guilt. LOL, jk...but I want to say that I have a 100% track record traditions, so here I am!
ReplyDeleteDI, thats a great idea!!!
hahahahahahaha!!!! that one is ok to keep putting off......forever. LOL! you go girl!!
